The Year Was 2012

A story of the ridiculousness of the human mind and the vulnerability to Satan’s lies.

The date was December 20, 2012, panic and fear ensued. The Devil was getting his way with the hearts and minds of God’s people.  Roads were packed with cars driven by people trying to flee something they couldn’t see. Irrational thoughts seized them into thinking that someplace else was safer than where they were. God’s people had stopped listening to Him. They piled into stores depleting every shelve of survival needs, but no one knew what they were going to be surviving.  What could all this mean, what were they surviving and what were they running from?

In 2009 someone who obviously didn’t believe in the Father and our Savior Jesus Christ, followed some historical study and came up with the idea that the world was going to end based on Mayan and Aztec calendars. These calendars were created thousands of years ago by civilizations wiped out and spread thin by Spanish Conquistadors.  These calendars were only used to account for agriculture and ritual days. They weren’t that good for any other use and this type was eliminated when more modern and useful calendars were created after the Mayans and Aztecs dissipated in time.

The Aztec calendar was based on “gods” and “demons”. They believed they needed a calendar so they knew when the gods needed to be kept happy, so that the “demons” did not come in and cause them harm.  Also, this calendar wasn’t based on specific years, it only followed a certain number of days then reset.  There were also three different ones to go by whether you were tracking a 20 day cycle for the sacrificial altars, 365 day cycle for the solar patterns and agriculture, or the 260 day cycle that divides the days and rituals between the “gods”.

There was not any definitive year structure attached to the Aztec calendar system. The Aztecs believed that their life cycle was only 52 years and this was based on the time frame in which the 365 day calendar and the 260 day calendar reset at the same time. At that time they would hold a  fire ritual so to appease the gods who they thought could come and destroy everything and the world would end.  So it appears that every 52 years the people who followed the Aztec calendar would freak out, have fire festivals and in the past sacrifice a man by ripping out his heart.

The Mayan calendar date on which some people think the world will end is only a specific time in which an extremely close conjunction of the Winter Solstice Sun with the crossing point of the Galactic Equator (Equator of the Milky Way) and the Ecliptic (path of the Sun), what that ancient Maya recognized as the Sacred Tree. Civilizations with  religions that believed in more than one god and sacrificed our God’s children to “appease their gods,” should not be an example to follow when it comes to determining something which is totally indeterminable.

Two years have past with rumors and misunderstood science and history. Uneducated people have  listened to the false profits and prophecies that Satan passes over this world in hopes to trick God’s people into believing what isn’t true and to draw us away from trusting our Father.  Why are they not listening to the Father anymore?  What has happened to His people that they have lost all faith in our Savior Jesus?  The end of the world or Armageddon, which  is spoken about in the Bible is the biggest mystery from God Himself. Not even Jesus with all the power and knowing of our Father knew the day of His return. He said Himself that His Father chose that time. Matthew 24:36 . Jesus could only describe what would happen when the time came, but could not or would not give a specific time that these things would happen. Matthew 24:7.

Unfortunately the vagueness of these descriptions in the Bible has lead to many people trying to interpret what they thought Jesus and John were “trying to say.”  Many others follow instead of being free to learn for themselves, so they take all these “opinions” as “gospel” and too literally.  Such examples of this sadness that the devil has caused with God’s people is apparent with history in such stories as..

  • Joseph Smith: In the 1830’s, he created the Mormon religion based on his wild imagination and self interpretations that he created from the Bible to meet his own spiritual needs and caused a whole church to be created of followers too afraid to believe for themselves what the Father has written for us to believe. They are “brain washed” by their culture into believing what they are told to believe. To this day churches of people who mean well are still following the teachings of someone living in a fantasy world instead of the one true teacher Jesus Christ.
  • Charles Taze Russell & Joseph Franklin Rutherford: These two men founded the Watch Tower & Tract Society in the late 1800’s & early 1900’s.  Russell started this by taking what he read in the Holy Bible and changed it up for his own purposes because he thought that it had been translated wrong.  He wrote many publications and books that described what he thought the Bible “should have said” and then when he died Rutherford took it even farther, founding what we see today as the Jehovah’s Witnesses. It shows that something hokey was up with this group idea when Rutherford took it over and a lot of the members left.  Now a days the members of this group are ruled over and regulated by counsels and not by the Word of Christ. They teaching their members from their own version of the word and not allowing them to read the True Word and use their own free will to believe and have faith in God and Christ for themselves.
  • Jim Jones: In the 50’s & 60’s, created a whole culture of people, building the “Peoples Temple” which was based on his lunatic ideas of socialism & communism, and using bits & pieces of the Gospel according his interpretation to draw his followers in.  In the end he killed all of them in the largest non-natural disaster in the world, with a mass suicide of over 900 people.
  • David Koresh: In the 80’s & 90’s, he created his own church because he claimed himself to be God’s only prophet and followed and old lady who lead his church to believe he could father a “Chosen One”, he (in my own words) became a beast and slept with every woman and child he could to accomplish this goal. When he prophesied his world to end, he took out 20 adults and 5 children with the brain washings that he had placed on them to follow his ideals of what God and their world was about and they shot the children and then themselves.

Point in turn: all God’s people have to start thinking for themselves and stop looking to others for the answers to life and what God has in store for us.  These men, along with countless others created aberrant doctrines  who “lead” or gave root to God’s people into unorthodox and/or self destructive and hazardous lifestyles which only harm and do no one any good, much less do God’s will.

Had the people who thought they needed these false prophets to answer their questions and to make them feel better about their lives had turned to the Savior Jesus and our Father for their faith and answers the number of countless lives lost would not have been.  Since the beginning people have turned to the comforts of the devil or their own self esteem and image when life got too hard and was less than perfect instead of forgiving the hurtful ones and themselves because the temporary “feel goods” that the devil can give make us think we are better and hides the truths.

Satan marks himself in every aspect of our lives, especially in all forms of media (tabloids, news, movies, books, etc.) and anything else that can implant ideas of sin. In our finances, possessions, and relationships, the devil can make his mark on us to turn against God, he will.  All things in this world are not evil, they can only be used for evil.  Media venues can be used for good when relating to truth and sinless values. Finances for all can be more blessed and in over-abundance when given and manged for God’s will rather than for selfish gain. Possessions can be good when our focus in life is not to try and see how much we possess but on how much we can give away to those without.  Relationships can become marked by Satan when they are formed for the wrong reasons such as betrayal, adultery, or for profit and self destruction.

The world is not going to end on December 21, 2012. Even Nostradamus doesn’t know anything, his guesses have, for hundreds of years, worked through Satan’s ways to use scare tactics against God’s people.

So “Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything; tell God your needs and don’t forget to thank Him for His answers.  If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand.” Philippians 4:6-7

The Fazooey

The Fazooey, made my own bean bag because i couldn’t afford to buy one.

The Fazooey

Standing 3 feet tall when fluffed, measuring 5 feet across! The giant of bean bags overtakes our little living room and swallows up all who dare to sit.

Doing things myself, I found this idea from a magazine ad for Love Sac, a place that make huge bean bags for alternative furniture.  BUT, the price was not right for my budget, so I made my own.  Taking the concept of how a bean bag sits, I free handed a pattern for each panel and joined the top and the bottom with a circle piece.  The bottom circle was cut in half to insert the largest zipper i could find to be able to fill and reseal easily.  I found a local company that sold shredded furniture foam and after near 200 pounds of foam and a small car to haul it in, it was filled. Shredded foam is best so that it can be re-fluffed and it will not flatten and die like the bean bags that use Styrofoam pellets. Also, use furniture or upholstery strength material to prevent teared and to lengthen the wear and tear.

Fair warning, if you are going to attempt to make one yourself; double, if not, triple stitch all seams, and stuff in the room it’s going to live in.  Once stuffed it doesn’t move through doors anymore unless vacuum compressed.  We moved shortly after it was built and i devised a vacuum bag out of plastic, used for painters drop clothes, and nonporous plastic tape to seal the edges.  Leave a small hole in a corner and use a vacuum to suck all the air out.  It becomes thin enough to get through the doors and should stay collapsed till you get to where your going, if it’s carried and not dragged to cause holes in the plastic.

A Special Turkey

Special flavor of turkey, tried and tested and delicious

Ingredients for seasoning mixture:

1 Turkey, thawed
1 c. butter

Stir all these ingredients for the seasoning mixture together till well blended.

After removing the giblets from the neck and the neck from the body; Place your thawed turkey in your roaster, breast up, put 2 spoonfuls of the above mixture inside bird and follow with 1 c. of butter.  Spread a little bit of the mixture over breast and then flip bird over, to cook breast down.  Spread the rest of the mixture all over bird, getting into all the crevices and in neck hole.  Bake breast down for 1 hour for every 5 pounds at 275 degrees. A little longer will be o.k. to ensure that the meat falls off the bones.

Don’t trust the pop out timers in turkeys, they are not always accurate to the correct internal done-ness.

Giblet Gravy

Giblet Gravy

Place the turkey neck and the giblets, removed from the bag, in a 2 quart sauce pan.  Cover with water about 2/3 full and boil till well cooked to create the broth needed for the gravy, cook about 30 – 45 minutes.  For a trick, cook whole 3 eggs in the pot at the same time and the hard boiled eggs will be needed later for the gravy.

Once neck is cooked, remove the pieces & eggs from the water.  Discard the neck and dice up the giblets to go back into the gravy, shell and slice the eggs and return to gravy, add 1-2 tsp. poultry seasoning, 1-2 tsp. sage and stir till well blended.  Next in a separate bowl take about 1/2 c flour and warm flour to make a roux, whisk till smooth(not runny and not lumpy thick).  Add while whisking to gravy juice and cook on med. heat while stirring till thickened.

Spiced Gravy

Turkey gravy from the brown sugar turkey recipe

Once the turkey, using the brown sugar recipe, is done, remove it from the roaster and through a metal strainer pour the juice* into a 2 quart sauce pan. Need to strain out the chunks & bits from the turkey that would make lumpy. Should have enough juice to at least to fill half or more of the pot.

Put Pot on stove on low to warm till your roux is ready.

Roux: Mix about a cup of flour with warm water and whisk till smooth, not runny but not lumpy thick.  Turn heat up to med on juice and while whisking juice pour roux into pot and whisk till smooth and not lumpy.  Add 2 tsp of pumpkin spice and cook while stirring till thickened.

*This can be made with non flavored turkey juice or chicken broth, you will need to add about a cup of brown sugar and a cup of butter to the broth, cook that down on medium till sugar is desolved and butter is melted. Then add the roux.

The best turkey in the world, no one walks away not liking turkey after eating mine. Even kids love this bird.

The best turkey in the world, no one walks away not liking turkey after eating mine.  Even kids love this bird.

  • 1 turkey
  • 1 half to a whole bag of brown sugar
  • 3 cups of melted butter (Paula would be proud)
  • plus 1 cup non-melted butter

Be sure turkey is thawed. Depending on the size of the bird it can take up to a week to thaw in a fridge, so make sure to get it in plenty of time(don’t assume you can pick one up at the store, they are frozen there too.) Remove packaging from turkey, remove the neck from inside the body cavity(if it still a little frozen, run some cold water (NOT hot) into cavities to melt the ice and the parts will come out easily), then remove giblet bag from the neck hole and save for later along with the neck.

In a glass bowl melt butter in microwave, then pour into brown sugar that will be in a mixing bowl, stir together till brown sugar is dissolved, the mixture needs to be thick and pasty, not runny.  Use brown sugar amounts accordingly if you use more or less butter, also depending on the size of the bird.  Once mixture is well blended..

Place breast up in your roasting pan, spoon the 1 cup of non-melted  butter into the body cavity, pour small amount of brown sugar mix over top, then flip.  Turn turkey onto the breast and pour the rest of the brown sugar mixture over making sure it gets in all the crevices, even in the neck hole.  Leave on breast and cook this way, approximately 1 hour for every 5 pounds of turkey on 275 degrees, can be cooked a little longer than this to allow the meat to fall off the bird with ease when carving to a platter.

Save the giblet and the neck for the Giblet gravy.

For those who want a new twist and are grossed out by the giblets then try my Spiced Gravy from the juice of the turkey.

FREEZER FRIENDLY: Freeze the left over turkey(if there is any) and have turkey salad in the summer.
