Chicken a la King variation, from past memory of a t.v. dinner

Ingredients:

Instructions:

In a slow cooker place your frozen breasts and season with tarragon, parsley, cilantro, house seasoning.  Cook on high for about 3 hours.

At the 3 hour mark, in a small bowl, whisk together milk and flour till well blended.  Pour into slow cooker and cook with chicken for another 1-2 hours on high.

Stir chicken and cream sauce, add vegetables and cook for another hour on high or on low till ready to serve.

I am JKB and I’m a hobbyholic.  I have once again self taught myself another trick.  My first project is a knitted scarf.  Completely out of a knit stitch, next project, learning to purl stitch.

To start to learn to knit, I bought a kit at the store that came with an instruction book and starter knitting needles.  I also found a site on line that had some good instruction video for when the book did not describe enough to understand.

A scarf pattern came in the back of the instruction book for a first project, I didn’t follow all the instructions, was trying to K.I.S.S. and did this scarf in all knit stitch.  The pattern in the book said that project should take 3 hours, don’t really know what whiz as a beginner could do that, this scarf took me 3 weeks.

Either way, it’s a new skill and the family better be worried because they’ve just seen what they will probably get for Christmas ;-D.  It has also replaced food while I watch t.v. at night.

 

S O S that is not S

The best hamburger gravy ever.

Ingredients:

Instructions:

In a deep skillet, brown the hamburger on medium heat.  While browning meat, sprinkle over top, garlic powder, paprika and black pepper.  When brown, Do not drain.  If you use lean meat and there is not very much fat drippings, then add 2-3 tbsp of oil to hamburger before adding flour.  Add your flour to the meat and stir till flour coats the meat and is not white anymore.  Add milk and stir on medium heat till starts to thicken, then reduce or turn it off.  Continue to stir till thickened.  Stir consistently to keep from clumping on bottom of pan.

Serve over pieces of bread or toast,  sprinkle over top a crumbled cube of chipotle seasoning for the best touch of flavor.

Asian Sauce Dip

Party dip or sandwich spread

 

Ingredients:

Instructions:

Stir all ingredients together thoroughly and chill till ready to serve.  Let chill for at least an hour to meld the flavors together.

PIZZA!!

These pizzas were made with pre-made pizza crusts.  My favorite crust is Rustic Crust, it’s a good size and very affordable at your local store. Mix and match ingredients as your taste fits.

Canadian Bacon and pepperoni –

Apply your ham or Canadian bacon
Spread your choice of spaghetti sauce on crust.

 

Add more cheese to finish. Use Italian blends shredded cheese
Apply some cheese and pepperoni

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Layer as desired, I like to place a small amount of cheese under my pepperoni to help glue the pepperoni to the pizza.

Bake 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes.  Go according to the pizza package as well for cooking directions. Sprinkle Italian seasoning on top of top cheese for added flavor.

Baked Butternut Squash Medley

Supplemental recipe for extra vegetables left over from the slow cooker mixed vegetables.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 butternut squash*, cut in large slices
  • 1 zucchini, sliced
  • 1/2 bag pre cut carrots, 8 oz
  • 1/2 of each, green, orange, yellow bell pepper
  • 1/2 red onion, sliced
  • 3 large spoonfuls of butter
  • My House Seasoning

Instructions:

Slice and layer veggies in casserole.  Dollop butter on top, sprinkle house seasoning over top.

Bake covered with foil on 300 for about an hour or till veggies are tender.

*butternut squash tip, microwave for a few minutes before peeling and it will peel and slice much easier.  They can be somewhat hard if not.

Slow Cooker Mixed Vegetables

Simple and delicious way to prepare butternut squash

 

Ingredients for Sauce:

Other Ingredients:

  • 1/2 butternut squash*, cut in large pieces
  • 3 sm – med potatoes
  • 1/2 lg red onion
  • 1-2 zucchini, sliced
  • 1/2 bag pre cut crinkle carrots, 8 oz
  • 2 sticks of butter
  • 1/2 of each: green, yellow and orange bell pepper
  • salt and pepper

Instructions:

Spray your slow cooker crock with oil.

Mix together the sauce –

Layer as follows:  butternut squash with 2 tbsp of sauce drizzled over –

Sliced potatoes with 1 stick butter sliced over, salt and peppered to taste –

Large red onion, 2 more tbsp of sauce then the zucchini and carrots –

Other stick of butter sliced over carrots, the bell peppers, then rest of sauce –

Slow cook the vegetable for 6-8 hours, or till potatoes and butternut squash are tender.

Be sure to layer vegetable in this order, you want your tougher veggies on the bottom to absorb the juices and your softer veggies on top so they don’t become mushy and unrecognizable.  The carrots could be put lower if you want, in this way they came out not soggy but with just the right amount of crisp.
