Candy Cane Hearts

I was enlisted by my work to come up with an idea to turn some candy canes from Christmas into a fundraiser item for the Children’s Miracle Network to sell at Valentines.  This is what I came up with…

Supplies for one heart:

  • 2 candy canes
  • 1 – 6″ piece of red yarn
  • 1 – 12″ piece of red yarn
  • 1 – 18″ piece of red yarn
  • a piece of clear tape
  • note card

First place the two curved ends of the candy canes together, while long ends cross each other, and put a piece of tape around the ends to stabilize and hold together…(don’t worry about if the candy canes do not make a perfect heart, all Love is unique and there is only one perfect Love that only our Heavenly Father can give.)

Second, cut your 12″ piece of yarn.  Leaving approximately 2 ” at end, start to wrap around the bottom of the heart in a crisscross fashion till a matching end appears…

3 times horizontally around and 2 times vertically then around to meet the other string to tie a knot and trim ends…

Third, cut an 18″ piece of yarn and leaving approximately 4″ at end, start to wrap around the taped ends.  Loop around the back to insure the ends meet to tie…

Wrap around about 5 times meeting in the front and tie a knot and then a bow…

Fourth, cut a 6″ piece of yarn and tie on either side in a knot…

Lastly, add your special note…

Once you get the hang of this, one can be made in about 3 minutes…

Do not worry about candy canes not being symmetrical, make each heart unique to the love your giving.
